Exploring The Racial Imbalance Of NC's Charter Schools (NPR)

Reema Khrais of WUNC reports on CPSC's efforts to create a diverse population of students. A few years ago, CPSC instituted a weighted lottery to give students from low-income families a better chance of getting in. The school's percentage of families qualifying for free and reduced price meals has risen from 6% to 18%, and the school now has three times as many students of color. This counters a statewide trend of charter schools becoming more racially imbalanced. Listen to or read the story on WUNC.org
