children are excited about a class experiment

Central Park School for Children is making a difference for our students and within the greater scope of education in Durham and North Carolina. It takes all kinds of support to maintain and enhance the high quality, well-rounded education we provide. Whether you’re a CPSC parent or a community member, we appreciate your support.

CPSC is NOT a private school; we are a tuition-free PUBLIC charter school. Compared to traditional public schools (city/county districts), North Carolina charter schools receive almost 25% less funding from state and local governments. Charter schools have been especially affected by the severe education budget cuts that have taken place over the past few years. Each year CPSC relies on friends and families of our school to provide real dollars in our school’s budget.

Sunshine Fund

CPSC’s Sunshine Fund — our Annual Fund — helps bridge budget gaps and ensure quality and sustainability. Donations to the Sunshine Fund help CPSC employ exceptional teachers, create a rich curriculum, maintain welcoming facilities, and develop special initiatives to improve public education.

We ask you to support our work through a tax-deductible donation to CPSC's Sunshine Fund. On behalf of the children and families of CPSC, we thank you for your generosity.

Corporate Matching

You can double or even triple the amount of your gift to the CPSC if your employer matches charitable contributions. Check with the Human Resources or Community Relations department, or look online. CPSC's Development Office also keeps a list of companies with matching programs.

About Our Foundation

The CPSC Sunshine Fund is administered by the school's nonprofit foundation. The Central Park School for Children Foundation is a legally separate nonprofit entity that houses and manages the school's financial and property assets including the Foster Street building and the Foundation reserve fund. Annual contributions to the Sunshine Fund go into the Foundation for distribution to the school.

Members of the Foundation Board are Vicky Patton (President), Alan Staple (Treasurer), Bob Chapman and Karen Stinehelfer. John Heffernan serves as Secretary.

Businesses and organizations are invited to sponsor our annual Strawberry Festival — a popular downtown Durham family event attended by over 3,500 people on the first Saturday in May.

The Strawberry Festival is run by volunteers from the school and community, and is made possible by generous support from local businesses, residents, and CPSC parents. Sponsorship raises much-needed funds for special initiatives at the school and offers valuable exposure for your organization. Donations are tax deductible. See our Strawberry Festival webpage for more information.
