About Save Our Arts

CPSC's annual all-ages "Save Our Arts" benefit concert is an evening of music performances by local bands and an exciting silent auction.  Proceeds from this event support the arts education programs at Central Park School for Children and in the greater Durham community.

Funds raised through this event help CPSC pay for art supplies; staff development for arts education; arts-based field trips for workshops, gallery visits and performances; permanent art supplies for the school; maintenance of musical instruments used in music class; and artist-in-residency grants.

Last year we raised close to $9,000, and with these funds we were able to build and install a shelter to get our kiln up and running (purchased with funds from SOA 2011) as well as continue to support classroom art supplies, guest artist funding, and to purchase a large format laminator for preserving project work!  More than 600 people attended the event -- from CPSC staff and families to local government officials to folks from the neighborhood just popping in to see what all the fuss was about. The silent auction was a huge success, featuring 21 baskets, 19 services, and 19 donated items.
