Peaceful Schools

The Peaceful Schools program is a holistic approach to student growth that provides tools for everyone in CPSC's school community to deal with bullying behaviors and resolve conflicts in nonphysical, safe and predictable ways.

Peaceful Schools defines bullying as any behaviors that are intended to humiliate, embarrass or exclude others. We all are Bullies, Victims and Bystanders at various times. The program teaches awareness of bullying dynamics, and emphasizes what bystanders can do to create and maintain a peaceful community where bullying is not accepted.

The Peaceful Schools program has three goals:

  1. Instilling self-esteem, respect, and compassion in students through the acquisition of social and physical skills and philosophies.
  2. Making students, parents, and all staff aware of the bully-victim-bystander power dynamics so that they can quickly recognize them in their own interactions with others.
  3. Giving students tools for solving conflicts in nonphysical ways and teaching them to utilize better and more effective coping skills.

CPSC adopted the Peaceful Schools program in 2009. Our implementation and training for the Peaceful Schools program is assisted by the North Carolina Psychoanalytical Foundation and Dr. Renee Prillaman, director of Carolina Friends Middle School.
