Movement Program
CPSC’s multidisciplinary, integrated Movement Program, is a physical education curriculum that is fully aligned with the North Carolina Healthful Living Standard Course of Study. The Movement Program also complements our Peaceful Schools program.
The movement program consists of nine week courses in Cooperative Physical Education Games, Aikido, Yoga, and Dance, taught by master teachers from the Triangle community. Each of these movement activities help students develop skills that have practical application in the classroom, on the playground, or at home.
Program Goals:
- Motor planning skills: Students develop a sense of their own body, e.g.jumping, balancing, hopping
- Interpersonal communication strategies: Students develop skills to better relate to one another, e.g. solve conflicts and cooperate.
- Intellectually challenging: Students improve critical thinking and problem solving skills by learning techniques to manage their bodies.
- Life-long fitness: Students learn about movement activities they can practice throughout their lives.
Each movement class utilizes specific language to support the goals of motor planning skills, communication strategies, critical thinking and problem solving.
