Our school building is the historic former Army Reserve Building, now owned by the not-for-profit Central Park School for Children Foundation. Recently renovated, our building is welcoming, child-friendly and functional. We have a well-stocked Media Center and an indoor gym.

The children play on our own playground and in Old North Durham Park, a city park directly behind our building. The unique play structures in the park are our gift to the city, bought with proceeds from our annual Strawberry Festival. In our gardens, classes learn about ecology, botany and local wildlife in addition to the fun of harvesting fresh food they've grown.

The Central Park District

We are excited to be a part of the growing vitality of Durham's Central Park District, a collection of neighborhoods representing our city's rich diversity. Teachers take advantage of our downtown location by making frequent field trips. Many destinations are walkable; we arrange transportation for longer trips.

Within one mile are wonderful public resources, including Durham County Library, Durham Arts Council, Cooperative Extension, and Durham's Central Park, home of the Durham Farmer's Market. Also within walking distance are several locally-owned businesses and cultural attractions including Patanjali's Place yoga studio, Stone Bros. & Byrd garden center, The Scrap Exchange, the American Tobacco Campus, Carolina Theatre, and both old and new ballparks.
