Class Parents

The primary role of a Class Parent is to ensure that teachers and CPSC receive the volunteer help needed from parents throughout the year. Ideally each class will have two Class Parents plus a Strawberry Parent. Two school-wide Class Parent Coordinators provide information and support throughout the school year.
Class Parent #1
is responsible for in-class support and activities such as:
- Meeting with the teacher in the first few weeks of school to determine volunteer support needs
- Coordinating classroom volunteers (e.g., for field trips, teaching activities, etc.)
- Organizing and distributing the emergency phone tree
- Organizing teacher and staff appreciation gifts or activities
- Helping to gather supplies for special projects
Class Parent #2
is responsible for school-wide support and activities such as:
- Reinforcing messages from school committees and administration about critical dates, upcoming events, etc.
- Recruiting volunteers for school-wide activities such book fairs, all-school recess, and the quarterly Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
The Strawberry Parent
helps the teacher specifically with the Strawberry Festival. This can involve gathering supplies, coordinating volunteers, and helping students create the booth activity.
Questions?
Who is my Class Parent?
Class Parents are listed in the back of the CPSC School Directory, in the phone list for your child's class. The Directory is distributed during the first term of school.
How can I learn more?
The Class Parents Responsibilities document explains these roles, and the operation of the Phone Tree, in more detail.
